Some yatris preferred doing the walk on empty stomachs. The Bankey Bihariji Temple is one of the most famous Krishna temples in India – connected to the legend of Saint singer Haridasji, contemporary of Akbar. It is said that Sri Radha & Sri Krishna merged into one beautiful idol on his prayer. This idol, originally worshipped at the nearby Nidhuvan, has been brought over to the current location and has been worshipped ever since at the new location. The parikrama started with the Bhajan Mandali from ISKCON leading with singing, cymbals and dholaks. Initial stages of the parikrama was along the Yamuna and the river was almost invisible due to thick fog. The yatris went past the Chor Ghat, Kesi Ghat, Jagannath Ghat etc., and several ashrams and goshalas on their way. Almost an hour into the walk, the yatris broke into a vigorous chant and dance at the behest of the Bhajan Mandali, the ISKCON way. The chant and tempo were so catchy that everyone including Sri M participated! It was so physical and robust that all got a nice physical workout in the morning chill!
