The relatively cool, cloudy weather helped the faster progress. With Shirdi looming large, the number of walkers are also increasing. There were about 200 yatris today in the Walk. Reaching ViladGhat, Sri M and a few padayatris visited the Mauli Seva Pratishthan. Mauli Seva Pratishthan (MSP) is a registered non-profit organization with a community mental health care centre. The word "Mauli" is a Marathi word. It means "Mother". According to a national survey, about 2 to 5% of population of India is suffering from some sort of mental or behavioural disorder. Out of this, 1% has a serious form of mental illness requiring urgent care and intervention. There are around 4 lakh wandering mentally ill people belonging mainly to economically backward and socially marginalised families. Nine out of ten 10 have diagnosable and treatable mental disorders. Four out of 5 have significant co-morbid physical health problems. The wandering mentally ill lack basic physical care and are vulnerable to all kind of abuse, including sexual abuse. Mauli Seva Pratishthan is an organisation that gives shelter, cares for and nurtures such people. It is run by a dedicated doctor couple. After this visit, everyone went back to the resting facility and retired for the day.
